I am a huge fan of pad thai, but unfortunately they do not come by easily in Ontario. So when W and I read about Pok Pok Phat Thai, we made sure to pay a visit on our trip to NYC a couple months ago with our friends.
The restaurant itself is a hole in the wall, and there’s approximately 12 seats. We were the only patrons there so we didn’t have trouble with getting a seat. The menu isn’t extensive but we came here for pad thai anyways. They have 5 types of phat thai (regular, ground pork, pawns, both, or vegan), and a couple other options. 3 of us ordered the Phat Thai Thamadaa ($9.50), which is the regular one, and W ordered Phat Thai Muu Sap ($11.50), which includes ground pork.
I really enjoyed the regular pad thai, and it’s probably the best one I’ve had in a long time. It’s not too sweet, or too sour. W didn’t enjoy his as much, probably because it was too heavy (the regular pad thai is cooked in rendered pork fat, the ground pork a touch too much for us). The portion was not as generous as some other places I’ve been to, but it was surprisingly filling. Also, they are vegetarian friendly so you can request them not to put the pork fat in your pad thai.
They also offer a variety of thai drinks, but we opted for the free water that’s tucked in the corner of the restaurant, since we were heading to a few other restaurants after so we didn’t want to be stuffed to the brim… (Preview: that didn’t work too well…)
If you are in NYC and looking for a quick meal with delicious pad thai, look no further! If you don’t want to make the trek to the restaurant, they also offer delivery within a certain perimeter.
